Henning Koppel's Bowl 980A has a remarkable resemblance to a piece of abstract art, a sculpture. Koppel, being a trained sculptor himself, had a unique gift for designing. Do note how he manages to make the bowl look light and floating, despite its heaviness by making space between the foot and the big bowl. The asymmetrical shape of the two forms almost makes it look as if the bowl is turning around itself.
The bowl is raised by hand from a very heavy flat piece of silver after the same principles as the Covered Dish 1026. The foot of Bowl 980A is cast in solid silver.
The Bowl 980A received the Gold Medal at the IX Triennial 1951 in Milan.
