THE GEORG JENSEN SILVERSMITH
For more than 100 years Georg Jensen has been at the forefront of Scandinavian design by tirelessly challenging the established conventions of the design category itself and is recognised as the world leader in creating exquisite silver hollowware. Our collection features iconic masterworks of the Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Functionalist movements, as well as contemporary designs that have become new classics as we move the Georg Jensen tradition of superior design into the 21st century. The story of Georg Jensen is one of a lifetime of crafting innovative art and design. Through generations the uncompromising craftsmanship that symbolises the company has been passed on, and by collaborating with eccentric and original artists and designers Georg Jensen has succeeded in continuously creating products of relevance, products that stand the test of time and transcend fleeting trends.
OUR BEGINNINGS
The philosophy of our namesake silversmith, Georg Jensen, is to create innovative designs that are both beautiful and functional. Georg Jensen grew up close to forest and lakes just north of Copenhagen. Nature was his core source of inspiration. Symbols of the natural world weave a common thread throughout his designs: fruits, blossoms, leaves and organic shapes. His other artistic skills combined with his continuous ability to identify and support design talent was the foundation upon which he founded Georg Jensen in Copenhagen in 1904. Our most important task today is to leverage the ideas and principles of the master himself and translate these into the designs of the present.

CRAFTSMANSHIP NEVER GOES OUT OF FASHION
Our production is based in Copenhagen at Georg Jensen headquarters with a production area of 1.200 m2. There are 30 silver smiths – we train all staff ourselves to secure highest possible level of skill. We use only 925 Sterling Silver of the highest quality in our production. We are capable of producing the entire Georg Jensen Hollowware Heritage for more than 100 years incl. cutlery. Same old handcraft techniques used 100 years ago are still being used. New product developments are still done every year with top designers of the world. With its extraordinary artistry level, Georg Jensen’s silver collections are exhibited at art galleries around the world.
Today the silver smithy still carries Georg Jensen’s spirit. It is a place where talent is recognised and developed; where a long apprenticeship leads to a life’s calling. The silver smiths at Georg Jensen all share one thing with the company’s founder: a deeply rooted passion for excellence.
