In 1960 Søren Georg Jensen created a large candelabrum for the high alter of an ultra-modern Scandinavian church. Based on this he designed a smaller version in the same style with two statuesque columns with a semi-hollowed outer edge giving relief to the solid, straight lines of the candlestick.

The silversmith starts out by making the two conical shaped tubes. The centrepiece is cut out and shaped from a flat piece of silver. Thereafter follows the patient work of fitting the three pieces together: The silversmith will work on the adjoining lines to make sure that they fit perfectly before soldering. The adjoining lines are quite long and placed so that the tiniest imperfection in the soldering will show immediately. Therefore it is of vast importance that the edges and the soldering are no less than perfect. This is important for the inside and the outside as you are able to see both once the opening is cut!

After the soldering the silversmith will cut out the opening on the sides and the corners and work on the outer edges to get the right profile.

The actual candleholders are separate pieces which are fitted and soldered on as the last pieces before the silversmith hands over the candelabrum to the polisher for the finishing process.
